Heading to the capital of Italy? Already booked your flight tickets and reserved an apartment in Rome or a Milan apartment. Good job. Now, if you are a first timer here, then most probably you will go to the most famous landmarks that are there to be seen. If you, however, come for a second or third time or if you are among those lucky ones that will spend more than three or five days here and have several weeks to explore Rome, then going off the beaten path is a very tempting option.

Gateway to the Gods

The city of Rome is a very popular tourist destination. Many, many words have been said and written to describe the Coliseum with its gladiators, the gateway of Gods – the Pantheon, the heart of the Roman Empire – the Roman Forum, and so on and so forth. Everybody has heard of the magnificent beauty of the Fontana di Trevi, many visitors have marvelled at the fountains on Piazza Navona. But besides these main tourist attractions in the Italian capital there are many hidden attractions in Rome, which also have their charm and deserve to be seen. Among these hidden treasures is the Capuchin Crypt, which is a haunted house with interesting decoration. The place will absolutely enchant you and will leave a great impression on you. This place however, is not for everybody. Some people love it and some don’t, but no matter what the result is that you cannot be left without an emotion and opinion. If you travel with your children though, may be it will not be a good idea to bring them here, as they might be scared.

Another interesting place to consider is the Gothic Church Sacro Cuore del Suffragio, which claims that it has evidence of different paranormal activity. The other site that deserves attention as well is Caius Cestius Pyramid, which has been strongly influenced by Egypt. In the past many people built their tombs in this way, but today Caius Cestius Pyramid is the only tomb of this style that has survived the years. The Romans adored marble and because of that the pyramid is made of brick and covered with marble slabs.

Now, to some brighter aspect of Rome. May be you know that the Romans are crazy about food and they prepare some very delicious specialties, which are simple to prepare but very tasty. Romans are also very proud of their recipes and culinary style. They have a National Museum of Pasta, which reveals the origins of pasta. The museum’s collection goes back to the 12th century and tells some really nice stories about Italian food. Here at the National Museum of Pasta one can see detailed receipts about preparation of meals and various variations on these same receipts that can make the dish so different. It is not guaranteed that by coming here you will learn how to prepare great pasta, but it can help for sure.

If you are heading to Portugal after your trip to Italy you should consider accommodation in Lisbon apartments.
